Black Woodpecker Foraging Site
A new (note fresh wood chippings) foraging site of a Black Woodpecker Dryocopos martius low down on a tree trunk. This species is comfortable on the ground and regularly makes such holes in trees that have heart-rot and which contain carpenter-ant colonies. Photo taken in Poland, 2010 by Gerard Gorman.
